Castelo de Sao Jorge or the Saint George’s Castle was originally build in the 5th century and was enlarged in the 9th century. The castle is located up the hill and offers a great view of the city and the Tagus River.

 

Praça do Comércio

 

Praça do Comércio

The Praca do Comercio or the Comercio Square is a vast waterfront square, this is where the royal palace once stood; it was later destroyed by the earthquake in 1755. Today there stands a statue of King Jose I showing him on horseback in the center of the square, the square is also known as Terreiro do Paço or the Palace Square.

The Belem Tower was built in the early 16th century, the Belem Tower is a fortified tower located in the Belém district build in the Manueline style. The Belem Tower was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

 

Cristo Rei

 

Cristo Rei

The Cristo Rei also known as Christ the King Sanctuary was built in 1959 on the south bank of River Tagus, the statue is ssimilar to the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro. Cristo Rei stands 100 meters tall and views from top of the statue are breathtaking.

Lisbon Botanical Garden

The Lisbon Botanical Garden is an enchanting botanical garden; the gardens cover a total area of 10 acres. The garden was build between 1858 and 1873 and today has sights of dense vegetation and exotic plants to enjoy.
