Arequipa is in southern Peru, the city was founded in 1540, the city is second most important city in Peru after Lima, the city is rich in culture and history also the historic centre of Arequipa was named a UNESCO world heritage site in the year 2000. The city is also nicknamed "The White City" as it has many colonial-era Spanish buildings built of sillar, a pearly white volcanic rock, the city of Arequipa is surrounded by fascinating villages and the snow-capped volcano El Misti.
