Split is the second largest city in Croatia and the largest and most important city in Dalmatia, Split is of immense economic and administrative importance because of it’s port, Split has a long and eventful history, the city was originally built around the Diocletian palace, a palace/fort built for the retired Roman emperor Diocletian, Split is a Mediterranean city, Many of Split's historical and cultural buildings can be found within the walls of Diocletian's Palace.
