Easter Island

Easter Island is an island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean; it is one of the most isolated inhabited islands on the planet located 3,700 km off the west coast of Chile. The island is a special territory of Chile and is world famous for its monumental statues called moai created by the Rapa Nui people. The history of the islands is still some what unclear as of today but never the less it is a world heritage site with much of the island protected within the Rapa Nui National Park.

Easily the biggest tourist attractions on Easter Island are the Moai statues; these are the large stone statues found mostly along the coastline. A total of 887 monolithic stone statues have been inventoried on the island and in museum collections.
