Dar es Salaam means "House of Peace" in Arabic was the former capital of Tanzania which was founded in 1862, the city was formerly known as Mzizima, the city is still the financial capital and the richest city in the country today, Dar es Salaam has a lot to offer to prospective travelers like it’s colorful markets, beaches, picturesque harbor, historical buildings and a unique and colorful culture, the city has a feel of overgrown town.

The Zoological Gardens
The Zoological Gardens or the Botanical Gardens are not very far from the city center, a walk around the garden is quite relaxing, the Botanical Gardens also became the home of Dar es Salaam Horticultural Society.

Dar es Salaam has some quality museums namely the Village Museum and the National Museum, the village museum is about 10 km from the city centre and the national museum has exhibits like fossilized remains and more.
