Dushanbe

Dushanbe is the capital and largest city of Tajikistan, the city is a pleasant city and is nestled in the Pamir Mountains. The name Dushanbe means ‘Monday’ in Tajik and it is called so because the city grew out of the village which was a popular as a Monday marketplace.

Markets

One of the major attractions in Dushanbe is the markets here, the markets here are Barakat covered and they sell anything and everything. One can buy souvenirs of colorful Tajik goods.

Museums

Dushanbe has a few museums for the museums lover especially the Tajikistan Unified Museum and the Ethnographic Museum; here one can enjoy exhibits ranging from handicrafts, stuffed animals, memorabilia and more.

Gissar Fortress

The Gissar Fortress was built in the 18th century and abandoned after 1920, the site is 30 km away from the city.
