Ljubljana

Ljubljana is the capital and the largest city of Slovenia, this 5,000 years old city is located in the center of the country and is also the political, cultural and financial hub of the country. The city is rich in culture and heritage and has a cosmopolitan feel to it. Ljubljana is also known as Laibach which is it’s German name. Ljubljana is a charming city and one of the smallest capitals in Europe, the city also has some great attractions for visitors.

Ljubljana Castle

Ljubljana Castle is located on a hill that dominates the city centre; one can walk or take a train up to the castle. The tower at the castle gives a magnificent view of the city. The castle was first mentioned in 1144 but was later destroyed; the present castle was rebuilt between 1485 and 1495.

St. Nicholas Cathedral

Saint Nicholas Cathedral also known as Cathedral of Saint Nicholas or Ljubljana Cathedral is the most prominent landmark in the city, the cathedral is located on Vodnik Square near the Triple Bridge. The cathedral was build and destroyed many a times through time. Today the green dome and twin towers of the cathedral are easily recognizable in Ljubljana.

Dragon Bridge

The Dragon Bridge is a road bridge located in Ljubljana and is guarded by four detailed dragon statues, the bridge was built between 1900 and 1901, the bridge is situated in the northeast of Vodnik Square and is protected as a technical monument.

Old Ljubljana

The old Ljubljana is the historic part of the city; the place is located immediately below the city castle across the Triple Bridge. The place has interesting squares, lanes, city hall, monuments, and well-preserved old buildings and churches.

Ljubljana has host of museums and galleries, some of the best ones being National Museum, Architecture Museum of Ljubljana, Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana, The National Gallery, National Museum of Contemporary History, Tivoli Gallery - International centre of Graphic Art and Slovenian Museum of Natural History.
