Niamey is the capital of Niger, it is also Niger's largest city, the city lies on the Niger River, mostly on the east bank, Niamey is also the economical capital with all the industries concentrated here also Niamey has interesting local music and some good attractions for visitors.

Niamey has some major markets namely the Grande Marche, Katako Marche, Petite Marche and more, the major one being the Grande Marche which is one of West Africa's best, most diverse, and calmest big markets.

Grande Mosquee
Grande Mosquee is probably the image of Niger for the world, it was a gift to Niger from Qadafy, the structure was built around 1844, guided tours of the Grande Mosquee are available.

Musee Nationale and Zoo
The National Museum has exhibits on Nigerien history and culture and also the facility has a small zoo, the museum exhibits are decent and the museum is located downtown.

Giraffes & Hippos
One can also enjoy the company of Giraffes in Niamey as the West Africa's last surviving giraffe herd is just 45 minutes outside of Niamey (near Koure) and guided tours are available. Also river trip to watch Hippos are available.
