Monaco-Ville is the capital of Monaco and not Monte Carlo as probably everyone thinks, Monaco-Ville was originally a fortified town and it’s ancient name was Monoecus. Locally Monaco-Ville is also called ‘le rocher’ or ‘the rock’, Monaco-Ville is quiet picturesque and has many a good attractions for visitors like the old fort of Monaco-Ville, museums and more.

The Monaco Cathedral also known as the Saint Nicholas Cathedral was consecrated in 1875, the cathedral is on the site of the first parish church in Monaco built in 1252 and dedicated to St. Nicholas.

The Napoleon Museum is dedicated to the French Emperor Napoleon I and has exhibits which once belonged to the emperor. The museum is attached to the Prince of Monaco's palace.

 

Oceanographic Museum

 

Oceanographic Museum

The Oceanographic Museum is a world famous museum of marine sciences; the Oceanographic Museum was inaugurated in 1910 and today it has great collection of various species of sea fauna including starfish, seahorses, turtles, jellyfish, crabs, lobsters, rays, sharks, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, eels and more both in stuffed and in skeletal form. There is also an aquarium which is housed in the basement of the museum.
