Nouakchott

Nouakchott is the capital and by far the largest city of Mauritania. Nouakchott lies between the ocean and the desert, though Nouakchott is very close to the sea it still has a very Saharan ambience to it. The city is the administrative and economic centre of Mauritania and the rural exodus and economic progress has gone hand in hand here. For visitors there are beaches, markets and more.

One of the most famous markets in Nouakchott, here one can find jewelry, clothing, rugs, teapots, African wares and more. Venders are mostly women who speak only Hassanya or rarely French.
