Skopje

Skopje is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Macedonia, the city is located in the Povardarie region on the upper course of the Vardar River. The city was known as Scupi during the roman period; today Skopje is fast becoming a modern city. Skopje suffered a disastrous earthquake in 1963 but today it is the administrative and political center of the Republic of Macedonia, also there are many monuments and attractions for visitors to explore like Old Railway Station, Museum of Contemporary Art, Natural Science Museum, Natural Science Museum, clock towers, Kurshumli An and more in Skopje.

Kale Fortress

Kale Fortress also called Skopje Fortress is a historic fortress raised in the 6th century by the Byzantines; the fortress is situated on a hill above the city overlooking the Vardar River. From the fortress one can get a great view of the city.

 

Stone Bridge

 

Stone Bridge

The stone bridge was built in the 6th century and is the main connection of the main square and the old bazaar. The bridge is 214 meters long and over the years has become a symbol for the city.

Old Bazaar is one of the largest and oldest markets in the Balkans, there were a host of small shops here selling everything like gold, shoes, pots, food, crafts etc.
