Myvatn

Myvatn is a shallow lake in the north of Iceland, it is situated in an area of active volcanism and volcano Krafla is not far from here, the name Myvatn is sometimes used not only for the lake but the whole surrounding inhabited area which is exceptionally rich fauna of waterbirds, especially ducks. The lake was created 2300 years ago in a volcanic eruption and thus the surroundings still have volcanic landforms, including lava pillars.
