Saaremaa

Saaremaa is the largest island in the Estonian, it is located in the Baltic Sea, inhabited for at least 6000 years, Saaremaa is known in older German and Russian sources as Osel. German Crusaders took the island in 1227, roughly 40% of its inhabitants live in the capital city, Kuressaare, today the island with its windmills, medieval churches, limestone cliffs and rare wildlife is one of the most popular destinations in Estonia.

Angla windmills is the only remaining group of windmills on Saaremaa, in 1925, when the village of Angla consisted of 13 farms, there were nine windcatchers on the hill.

Meteorite Crater

The Meteorite Crater is located Eighteen kilometers from Kuressaare now the Kaali lake, initially the crater was believed to be of volcanic origin, but in 1937 Ivan Reinvald collected 30 fragments of meteoritic iron from the collateral craters. The analysis of the fragments showed that the cosmic body which fell to the Kaali area belonged to the most frequent type of iron meteorite, coarse octahedrite.
