The Nicoya Peninsula is in western Costa Rica separated from the mainland of Costa Rica by the Gulf of Nicoya and the Tempisque estuary, Peninsula de Nicoya is Costa Rica's largest peninsula, Nicoya measures about 85 miles (140 km) northwest–southeast and 40 to 60 miles (65 to 96 km) southwest–northeast, if one want to stray from the beaten paths Peninsula de Nicoya is the place to be.

One can go for Hiking and Camping at Barra Honda National Park, there are caves and the 40 limestone caverns are the main attraction at Barra Honda National Park, the caves range from a few feet to over 780 feet (240 meters) deep.
