Porto-Novo

Porto-Novo is the capital of Benin, it is an easy one hour car ride from Cotonou; only 20 minutes from the beach. Porto Novo is named by the Portuguese in the 1500’s and still today has significant Portuguese influence. For its size, Porto Novo has quite of bit of culture and tourist attractions.

Musee Ethnographique de Porto Novo

Musee Ethnographique de Porto Novo is an interesting museum it was created in 1957. It was the first museum established in Benin and contains cultural artifacts from all over the country. The museum displays a good selection of fetishes, old Yourba king masks, costumes, and some musical instruments.

Palais Royal du Roi Toffa

Palais Royal du Roi Toffa is the residence of King Toffa and is now officially called Musee Honme. It is a well maintained and rather simple palace and good visit for all the visitors.
