Hrodna

Hrodna or Grodno in Russian is a city in Belarus; the city is situated on the border with Poland on the Neman River. Hrodna has seen both the world wars from close quarters in 1915 Hrodna was occupied by the Germans and in 1920 is was ceded to Poland and remained with Poland until 1939, then again Hrodna was occupied by the Nazi army which was liberated by the Russian army in 1944. Hrodna has been a city in Belarus since the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1990.

Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier

The Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier is probably the best attraction in Hrodna, the cathedral is located on the Soviet Square and has beautiful Baroque architecture. The construction started in 1678 but due to wars the cathedral was consecrated 27 years later.
