Yerevan former names include Erivan and ancient name Erebuni is the largest city and capital of Armenia. It is situated along the Hrazdan River, which is not navigable, on the Ararat Plain. Yerevan is a leading industrial, cultural, and scientific centre in the Caucasus region. Yerevan is one of the three major cities of the South Caucasus, it was completely rebuilt in the 1930s. Being on a strategically important place.

Erebuni Town-Fortress

Erebuni Town-Fortress was built by King Argishti I in the first quarter of the 8th century BC; it was located on the hill of Arin Berd, near modern Yerevan in Armenia. Excavations at Erebuni have centred on the palace and temple; both buildings contained important wall paintings.

Garni Temple is situated 26 kilometers east of the capital city of Yerevan. The area around Garni has been settled since Neolithic times and archaeologists have found Urartian inscriptions dating back to the 8th century BC, the Garni temple was built by the Armenian King Trdates I in the 1st century AD.

Mother Armenia

Mother Armenia is a statue in Victory Park of an Armenian mother overlooking the capital city of Yerevan, Armenia. "Mother Armenia" statue stands to symbolize peace through strength. The monument by Ara Harutyunyan replaced the dictator Stalin's statue in 1967. There is also Mother Armenia Museum of the Ministry of Defense.

 

Tsitsernakaberd

 

Tsitsernakaberd

Tsitsernakaberd is located on a hill overlooking Yerevan it is a memorial dedicated to the the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Armenians gather here to remember the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide that took place in the Ottoman Empire carried out by the Turkish government. Along the park at the memorial there is a 100 meter wall with names of towns and villages where massacres are known to have taken place.
