Visit Pucon

Pucon in Chile is a popular tourist spot in the Chilean Araucanía Region. The City of Pucón is located at the foot of the Villarrica Volcano which is the foothills of the Andes Mountain Range. The town itself is located on the southern shores of Lake Villarrica. Pucon has volcanoes high enough to have snow there year-round, other than that Pucon is quiet green and has warm summers. The best attraction of Pucon is its natural beauty; one will find green forested mountains, beautiful lakes and nice waterfalls here. Also here one can enjoy adventure sports such as canopying or cannoning, rafting, horseback riding, biking or he may just walk around the beautiful landscape. The town looks like a picture postcard having little wooded houses, beautiful restaurants, bars and cafes. If one prefers peace and looks forward to a relaxing holiday then it will be best to go during the off season as it won’t be much crowded then.

The town is dominated by this Villarica volcano which has a height of around 2.800m above sea level and a sight of the fabulous Villarica Volcano is just too good to miss. The sight of majestic snowcapped mountain with sulfur steaming crater in the middle of the green surrounding is probably that of nature at its best. Pucon not only offers the goodness of its waters and the scenically beauty, but also has great infrastructure and wide range of services for the tourist to enjoy.

This region of Chile has two national parks the Huerquehue and the Villarrica. During winter months ski and other winter sports are practiced on its slopes, while during summer time one can be adventurers and climb to its very crater. There are so many natural sights here like the Trancura River and its rapids, the hot springs and more. Travelers in Pucon can indulge in many activities like waters sports, mountaineering, horse riding, flora and fauna watching, fly-fishing and cultural tours. During summer time the lakes and lagoon have warm waters which makes water related activities fun.

If one is physically fit and enjoys an adventurous holiday then it is best to hire a guide and hike to the top of the crater. The route is very scenic and passes through snowfields, glaciers and bizarre looking lava rock formations. The journey can be a little tiring but the view from the top will compensate for all the tiredness that one feels, the return journey is much more relaxing and is not very strenuous. During the winter months one can ski on the crater, though not a very great ski area it is fun to ski here.

Another must see sight in Pucon is the “Termas Geometricas”, which is two hour drive from Pucón. Here you will find warm water pools which are situated in a canyon surrounded by the green vegetation of the rain forests. The place is scenic and a great place to relax after a day of hiking to enjoy natural beauty. Here pure and relaxing thermal waters with outstanding healing qualities inserted into landscapes - such as forests, mountains, rivers, lagoons and unknown footpaths - will definitely make you forget about everyday hustle.
