The Forbidden City is located to the North of Tiananmen Square, Bejing, China. It is the world’s largest Palace complex containing more than 9,999 rooms and spread across 74 hectares. The palace is surrounded by a thick wall and is a representation of the greatness of Oing and Ming kingdom. More than one million workers went through hard labor for years in order to build the Forbidden City. The materials used in the construction of this great palace were collected from all across the whole China and special arrangements were done for their transportation to the construction site. The construction skills and hard work of ancient Chinese has made the Forbidden City a master piece.

The palace has watch or guard towers at the each corner of square shaped boundary wall. These towers are unique in their structure and present a great view of the Palace and surrounding area. There are gates present in the security wall on each side. The use of yellow color is prominent throughout the Forbidden City as it was the royal color. The paintings, carvings and the roofs are all of Yellow color. The complex is divided into two main parts and both sections are divided by a courtyard. Northern section was used as the living place for royal families and southern part was used by the king and the court was assembled there. This complex served the kings for almost five centuries and symbol, culture and tradition of various eras are visible across the Forbidden City.
Forbidden City is open to everyone now. Its opening hours start from 0830 am to 0530 pm. Traveling to the Forbidden City is not a problem as you can easily reach there by public transport. The beautiful paintings, architectural styles, spacious rooms and its uniqueness attracts everyone. There is a museum in the palace where you can see the items which were used by the emperors. The handicraft, artwork, ceramics, paintings, old imperial collection and classical woodwork items present in the museum are unmatchable. The wood work done in the palace is of outstanding class and it is considered as the largest ancient wooden structure which is still intact. Places in the palace which are worth watching include Hall of Literary Glory, Gate of Supreme Harmony, Hall of Military Eminence, Palace of Heavenly Purity, Hall of Supreme Harmony, Imperial garden and Palace of Tranquil Longevity.
The Forbidden City is also called Palace Museum or Gu Gong in Chinese. The palace complex is rectangular in shape and construction of the palace complex began in 1407 and was completed after fourteen years in 1420. The Forbidden City is a civilization in itself. During the visit you will feel that you have traveled back into the ancient era and enjoy every moment of it.
