Travel Angkor Wat

 

Although there are many attractions in Cambodia but one definitely stands out. A large number of tourists visit Cambodia to experience this attraction alone. It is a complex of temple located in a jungle, around 300 km from the capital of Cambodia and is known as Angkor Wat. The temple complex was built by the King of Khmer Empire in twelfth century. Khmer Empire is considered to be one of the strongest empires in the history of South East Asia. Angkor Wat is a great example of unique Khmer architecture. An image of Angkor Wat is also present on the Cambodian flag showing the importance of the temple complex.

 

 

The place is so unique that many people consider it among Seven Wonders of the World. Angkor Wat was first uncovered for western civilization during the French rule. Nowadays a large number of people visit the temple complex every year. The architecture of Angkor Wat is strongly influenced by Indian architecture and also by various religious transformations that the region went through. A city was built around a central temple and there are many canals and water streams which were not only for irrigation purposes but also had religious meanings.
 

The Angkor Wat complex is composed of five central shrines. These shrines are established on three main platforms with terraces around them. A paved path from the entrance of building leads to the main building. There are galleries present in the complex which contain drawings and carvings depleting ancient stories and more. The complex has been constructed using sand stones and huge pieces of rocks, these sand stones were brought to the site from hills which are around 50 km away from Angkor Wat. Specially designed boats and rafts were used for the purpose of transportation    

The sunrise and sunset at Angkor Wat are hot favorites among tourists and a must do when in Cambodia. These sights are so beautiful that they mesmerize people who experience it. One can also travel to the near by hill to witness the sunset or sunrise alternately one can use one of the upper terraces at Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is not only visited by people as it is an architectural marvel or a historic monument but the temple complex is also visited by people for their spiritual uplifting. To reach the site one can hire a taxi or use public transport from Phnom Penh. It is also advisable to start early in order to avoid the rush.
