Poconos means a stream between two mountains and one will find that the name fits quiet well, here the Delaware River runs between two mountains in northeastern Pennsylvania. The Poconos consists of mountain and lake of about 2,400 square miles, there are several Poconos vacation homes, hotels, motels and bed & breakfasts to stay at throughout the Poconos area. There are many events, festivals, amusement parks, hiking, fishing, and hunting; skiing, boating and golf which can be destination all the year round. Though there is growth and development the beauty of nature is still unspoilt. There are a lot of franchise restaurant as well as shopping malls which blend with the resorts.

 

 

Tourism in Poconos dates back to 1800s when they stayed in a boarding house near the riverside. It soon became popular destination for people from New York and Philadelphia. People visit the mountain lakes in summertime for a restful and relaxing weekend, Poconos over time has become a popular destination and many people have bought holiday homes. The best way to see the natural beauty of Poconos is through Horseback riding. The view you will get while riding will give a close-up glimpse of the natural beauty of the place whether it is through forest or meadows or any other place.

Mountain skiing and snowboarding is also popular in Pocono. It has seven ski areas in the Mountains, containing 146 slopes and trails. The Skiing Mountains are the Alpine Mountain Ski and Ride Center, Blue Mountain Ski area, Camelback Mountain Resort, Big Boulder Ski area, Jack Frost Mountain, Shawnee Mountain, and Ski Big Bear at Masthope Mountain. All of them are great to go skiing and snowboarding, but Camelback Mountain Resort is the most well known of the seven. Another recreation activity is to play Paintball, Paintball is popular game and you will find two field of paintball in Pocono region. So just master you skills in this area and enjoy yourself. There are many other activities to choose from to have a good time in Pocono like wildlife, bird watching, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking and even golfing.

Also there is The Blue Mountain Vineyards housed in New Tripoli, has a large tasting room which is styled after California wineries having open beams and windows. You can even have look through an observation area to the tank room below the tasting room. To visit Pocono you don’t need a very high budget, and you will find endless places to explore. There are few places that just cannot be missed like the Tannersville cranberry bog, the Delaware Water Gap, The NASCAR International Poconos Raceway and the Poconos State Park. Tours to local wineries and breweries and a visit to an art museum or antique shopping is also fun ways to spend your holidays in Poconos. The weather of Poconos is four-season weather but some nights are colder, even during spring and summer time.
