Patong beach is a vibrant and a thriving beach which is centrally located in Phuket. Patong beach is a paradise for the beach lovers, having all the ingredients of relaxing beach holiday during the day time. However at night the change is remarkable and the beach becomes an entertainment center. Patong beach and the area around here was a fishing village at one period of time but now has become one of the two cities of the island. Patong beach has a large number of activities, restaurants, nightlife going on at any point of time. The beach is a favorite for all kinds of water sports. One can enjoy water based activities like sailing, parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling at the south end, waterskiing or sea canoeing. If one is not too keen on water sports then there are activities like Elephant trekking which will lure you. In this Island elephants have been used for many years to work in forests and now they are used for trekking. The speed lovers will love the go-kart racing track. Here you have a choice of a single-seater, two-seaters. There are special go karts for the kids also. The track racing can go up to the speed of 80 Km per hour.
A very remarkable site around here is the Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre, Gibbons are humans nearest relatives. Many a time people keep them as pets thus they are rescued and rehabilitated here, one find this centre in the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park. The beach being a tourist destination one will find restaurants serving cuisines for all likes like German, Italian, Mexican and French. Being a popular place and many expats living there, these people have opened restaurants serving food from their own country. Patong has a charming night market located on Beach road which consists of pavement stalls selling local handicrafts, luxurious Thai silk scarves, wooden toys and luggage. But if you want to do some more shopping you can visit the two department stores on Patong beach - the Ocean Plaza and Robinson Department Store. The nightlife of Phuket is famous all over the world. On the Patong beach the best nightlife is to be found. You can visit the discos here like the Tiger Disco, Safari Club, Seduction Discotheque and the Banana Disco. But if you want to try something new then go to the many beer bars found along Bangla Road as well as the Go Go bars found in Soi Sea Dragon.
