Kyoto was once the capital of Japan, today there are many noteworthy temples and shrine of Japan in Kyoto. Kinkaku-ji meaning the Golden Pavilion is covered with gold leaf which is mirrored in the small lake nearby is one of the most spectacular temples. The Nijo castle, the Kiyomizu Temple, and the Nanzen Temple are places worth visiting. This place is famous for its pottery and the National Museum has exhibits of porcelain, lacquer ware, swords, and kimonos. The mountain trails outside the city are great places for the adventurous tourists to explore.
Another place of interest is the historic archaic Samurai and castle town in the rural Japan –Hagi Located near the western tip of the Honshu Island it has some wonderful museums and beaches. The Joka- Machi old samurai quarter is a must see, also one must not miss the Kumaya Art Museum, the Kasuga Shrine near Joka Machi and the Sho-in Shrine. While in Japan you have to see Idzumo, which is one amongst the four most important Shinto shrines of Japan, it is called the home of Gods.
For the nature lover there is the Sekigane. It is a small village that has hot water springs and coastal mountains. At the end of this small but calm and amazing village you can walk up through bamboo groves to Kamei Park. For the mountain lovers there is the Central Mountains of Honshu Island. This island has a collection of various mountains known as Central Alps, the delight of watching snow capped mountains cannot be described but will have to be experienced.
There are many types of tourists, some want peace and quiet, and others need bright lights and activities to fill their day as well as night. The land of Rising Sun as the whole world knows Japan has both.
