A trip to Tibet is incomparable in many a sense, One can be sure that he would experience things that he could have only dreamed of, Tibet is that incredible. It is a land that conjures up images of mountains and temples, it is a place whose mystique is unmatched by any other destination around the planet. Located on the Tibetan Plateau, it is the world’s highest region, most of the Himalaya mountain range lies within Tibet. Mount Everest the most famous peak on the planet is located on Nepal’s border with Tibet. Tibet has some of the world’s tallest mountain, as well as the world’s deepest canyon and also the highest elevated river. Along with all these Tibet also has the highest elevated roads, airport and railroad on the planet.

Lhasa the capital of the Tibet autonomous region and is located on the north bank of Kyichu River. There are numerous scenic spots and historical attractions but the most famous ones are the Potala Palace, Norbulingka, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Ramoche Temple. Potala Palace is erected on top of the Red Hill in Lhasa; the Palace was originally built for meditation. In the mid-17th century, it was re-built by the 5th Dalai Lama to its present size and stature and ever since it became the Winter Palace for the Dalai Lamas. The Potala is divided into two sections, namely, the Red Palace and White Palace.
Jokhang Temple is situated in the center of the old section of Lhasa; it is a gigantic architecture complex. Located in the east, facing to the west, it is a four storied temple with splendid golden roofs. It has architecture feature of Tang Dynasty and also assimilated very much features from both Nepalese and Indian Buddhist Temples. In addition to these there are also many tourist attractions that a traveler shouldn’t miss, some of them being the Guge Kingdom Ruins and the Tombs of Tibetan Kings. Other worthwhile sights are the Buddhist monasteries of Drepung and the Norbulingka the summer Palace of Dalai Lama.
Tibet’s name the “Roof of the World” is not a merely a statement, it is a fact that the valley bottoms of Tibet are higher than the highest mountains elsewhere. The most memorable part of this trip is to see the different faces of the Himalaya Range: on the north side, the ever-stretching snow mountains and atrocious weather make it an inhospitable land. While the south side of the Himalaya embraces luxurious shades of green, with waterfalls and cascades flushing almost everywhere. When in Tibet one shouldn’t spend all the time in seeing only historical sights as there are splendid natural landscapes to enjoy. A road trip on the beautiful Trans Himalayan route through four mountain passes, promising a panorama of a cultural and scenic diversity is also a must. Once in Tibet one can do nothing but marvel at this Mother Nature’s masterpiece.
