Brussels is the largest city in Belgium; this modern city is located on the shores of river Seine. Brussels is hotspot tourist destination of Europe and continues to attract thousands of visitors every year. It is a place where you can relax and just sit and watch the world go by. Brussels is the administrative capital of Belgium; it also has a very rich heritage and culture, the city is surrounded by historical reminders of past European glory. The climate of Brussels is mild and there are many languages spoken here like French, Flemish, German and English. There are many attractive sites for the tourists in Brussels. One of them is the European Commission which is a gigantic complex of buildings having a number of institutions and offices ranging from the European parliament to the European Commission.

 

 

Other buildings not far from here that are reminders of the enormous political influence of this city include: The Brussels Stock Exchange and the Palace of Justice. Travelers who are interested in arts and culture will find Brussels very interesting as Brussels has lots to offer culturally like The Grote Markt (Grand Place) is the central market square surrounded by guild houses and is one of the most visited tourist attractions. If you are visiting in August then you will find the Grand’ Place a sea of color as thousands of flowers are laid out in stunning patterns. In Teurenberg Hill is located the St Michael and Gudula Cathedral. This 13th century Gothic style cathedral is often used for royal functions and state ceremonies. The official palace of the King of Belgium is the Royal Palace. It is located in front of Brussels Park. Inside are some vivid decorations from the time of William 1 and many others.

The modern architecture of Brussels is also quite impressive. One of them the Atomium, which is a 102 meter nine steel spherical structure view that cannot be missed at night. Just near the structure is the Mini Europe Park where you can view the miniaturized reproductions of the famous monuments from around Europe. Also there is the Manneken Pis, the “little man peeing”. It is a bronze fountain sculpture which has been fascinating tourists for a long time, the statue dating back to 17th century and its origin has many versions. One of the versions says that it depicts a young boy urinating on a burning charge destined to blow up the city walls when under siege from a foreign army, thus saving the city from invasion.

St Nicholas Church is another site which is said to be constructed in the 11th century. It is a fine example of medieval architecture and is the oldest church in Brussels.  The next destination to visit can be the Royales Galeries Sint-Hubert and is the Europe’s oldest glass arcade. It houses fashionable boutiques and cool cafes. One of the most famous things of Brussels is the Belgian Chocolate, which can be tasted in Brussels. You can go shopping for it in the Avenue Louise which is grand shopping place.
