Bangkok is Thailand’s bustling, exotic and is one of the most popular destinations for all kind of travelers. The reason as to why it is so popular is because it is crammed with historical and cultural attractions, great restaurants, intriguing bars and an energetic atmosphere that pervades the air round the clock. Bangkok or its original name Krung Thep meaning City of Angels was build around 227 years ago in 1782. Bangkok is divided into two parts by the river Chao Phya, Bangkok proper is on the east side and Thonburi is on the west side. The old Bangkok and the China town district are between the river and Hua Lampong Railway Station; to the west of the railway station are the business and residential areas.

A mixture of traditional and modern culture Bangkok is a delight for tourists. It has proven to be a safe destination for the tourists from world over. Bangkok has a tropical climate, the skyline of Bangkok is scattered with skyscrapers, but the traditional life of people is very much alive, Buddhist monks are a common sight during the day, but scene changes with the setting of the sun, the nightlife of Bangkok is a thriving, this is in sharp contrast but a welcome one for everyone to enjoy.

While sightseeing one of the major attractions in Bangkok is the Grand Palace, the borders of the complex were built in 1723. The interior of the complex consist of government offices, royal residences and the most famous of all the Emerald Buddha Chapel, it is the monarch’s private chapel. The Buddha is a jade piece sitting on top of a golden altar, though not a large one; it is a very special one. The Buddha’s clothing is changed seasonally and is most probably made of Gold; the walls have large mythological scenes painted on them. Golden color is used quite a lot especially on the distinctively curved Thai roofs of the buildings. The halls and rooms have stunning interiors and are used for ceremonies and other events.

Another very striking temple in Bangkok is the Wat Pho which is the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. The Buddha is in a reclining position and the soles of the feet also have intricately detailed designs, also Wat Pho temple has massage service which is an added attraction. Other important temples in Bangkok are the Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn and Wat Benchamabophit or Marble Temple. The temples of Bangkok are quite a sight and can be compared to objects that popped out of an Asian fairy tale.

Other attractions in Bangkok include The Pasteur Institute’s Snake Farm where poisonous snakes are fed daily and visitors can watch handler’s milk cobras for their venom. Then there is also the world’s largest Crocodile Farm. Bangkok is also a  shopper’s paradise as you can get good jewelry, handicrafts and silk as well as cotton textiles.
